The W-2 True Cost Calculator

Every physician knows their salary. Almost none know their true hourly rate.

The number on your contract is a stated figure. It assumes a clean week of billed clinical hours. But the real week includes charting after the kids are asleep, inbox messages, prior authorizations, documentation, the hours nobody pays for and everybody works. When you divide your actual compensation by your actual hours, the number changes. Often dramatically.

This calculator does that division. Three inputs: your salary, your real hours per week, and your working weeks per year. It returns your true hourly rate, shows you how many of your hours are actually billed versus unpaid, and compares the stated rate against the real one.

It is not a trick. It is arithmetic most physicians have never been shown. The W-2 model is one of five practice models available to you, and understanding its true hourly cost is the first step to seeing the others clearly.
